Ben Fineman received his masters in Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon University, his BA in American Studies from Wesleyan University, and studied design at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
After college, Ben stumbled across design through a fortuitous job at a presentation graphics company. Eventually he ended up as a graphic designer / programmer / project manager / production artist for a tiny multimedia company. Since there were only three employees, he did a bit of everything.
After discovering information architecture, Ben moved to web design and consulting company Razorfish. He quickly rose to a leadership position at Razorfish, becoming lead information architect for the Schwab.com project. During his three-year tenure with the company, he also helped Avaya, a large spinoff of Lucent, move towards a company-wide content management system. Bens role at Razorfish extended beyond the boundaries of traditional information architecture to include strategy and user research.
A passion for user-centered design and a desire to broaden his base beyond web interfaces led him to the Interaction Design program at Carnegie Mellon. The program provided a perfect opportunity to explore the future of interaction design: social computing, physical interactions, ambient media, and multisensory interfaces, among other topics.
Currently, Ben is a Senior Design Analyst at frog design in San Francisco, where his recent clients have included a digital camera manufacturer, a security devices manufacturer, and a social-networking startup.
